Doesn’t the existing setup of H-1B skilled non-immigrant worker program actually work against the very principles of American Constitution? I mean, shouldn’t the visa be tied to the individual rather than the employer? The current system allows only the exploitation of workers by some unscrupulous organizations. OK, every system has a loop hole…but then shouldn’t the *highly skilled* individual have the right to decide with whom s/he works with?
With the current system, it leaves the individual at the complete mercy of the employer. So, don’t complain that the subcontinental workers (that largely benefit from the program) are docile as the Hindu Cows and act like bonded labourers. The lawmakers in Washington should push forward to amendments in the system rather than targeting the system.
America as a modern day “democratic country concept” has largely benefited from skilled immigrant and non-immigrant workers. If you want a new generation of immigrants that can think and act independently than being instructed, make the H-1B program individual specific!
