Kanchipuram

Kanchipuram (Conjeevaram) is worth a watch! Priyadharshan deserves credit for handling a less talked about subject - the travails of weavers in silk industry at Kanchipuram. The story takes place in pre independent India and directing such stories involve research with meticulous attention to avoid anachronism. I enjoyed watching the movie for its costume - reflecting the dressing sense of 30s and 40s, the innocence, contraptions etc.

Thiru should be congratulated for his Cinematography. I loved it and if I’m not mistaken, the post processing should have applied the Sepia filter to reproduce the visual sense that we have been transported back in time.

I personally believe, Rajesh would have been a better choice than Prakash Raj. Shwetha Reddy (as Prakash Raj’s wife) and Shammu (as Prakash Raj’s daughter) are good in their supporting roles.

Give it a shot if you like Art films.
