Lingual Tolerance

Surprisingly, Nashville - Tennessee has set a precedent in being lingually tolerant when its voters squashed a proposal to make “English” as the language of communication across businesses. Proponents of the Proposal have argued about the cost involved in supporting multi-lingual translation services (read: should it be interpreted as xenophobic?).

It is a surprise to me as Tennessee has a long history of being conservative with its Politics on racial segregation.

Rock on folks!

P.S: Something that the lingual chauvinists in Tamil Nadu or as a matter of fact in other States (in India) should take note of (esp. Jackasses like the Thackerays). The more tolerant you are, the more it helps in building a pluralistic society!

Alter-ego: Even the French that are vocal about Liberty are quite conservative when it comes to language. Like I say, America ain’t a Country. It is a Concept.
