Yay! It’s Pongal again! Wow! I’m sounding like I waited for Pongal - a year long. Nah! I don’t even enjoy eating Sugarcane. So, what is this all about? The Indian salaried Class deserves a paid break in the name of Farmers’ Festival? Come on, ain’t that ridiculous?
Alright. Now that the salaried class is locked to their home, the Tamil Channels need to come up with something to keep them entertained. Looks like the Program Directors at those mind numbing Channels decided to dish out the routine. Did you ask me what? It’s all right…I will share with you even if you didn’t ask for. Coz, you know it is the same shit that they will be broadcasting!
I found out that Actor Sivakumar’s top class Tamil speech (i think we don’t see such breed of drama Artists anywhere close to the mainstream) marking his 60th birthday (i’m sensing it was a re-telecast) was simply great! No, i’m not being sarcastic here. Seriously! His eloquence was captivating though he sounded a bit intense. Problem is…such a good program was pushed to 10:30 PM slot. I know what you are thinking. Hell who cares about anything that is after 10 PM. Unless otherwise it is something cheap and sleazy as the “midnight masala” (they can very well broadcast Adult Porn movies).
Vijay TV’s Gopinath (the anchor of “Neeyaa Naanaa”) decided that Actor Vijay would be *the most responsible person on Planet Tamil Nadu* by making him the cynosure of all eyes with an hidden agenda to push forward his reverse-fitted bee-brained “Villu” movie. A Prabhu Deva directed movie. Should I tell you that it will be as classy as Martin Scorcese and no where nearer to any of the Balakrishna type Tollywood pant-busters? Vijay (as in Actor) is probably the worst ever public speaker. He has no style of his own and is just the opposite of Actor Sivakumar. I mean you cannot compare. Period!
This punkass (i mean, i have nothing personal against Vijay) sits there and is too uptight to interact or talk to Audience. The questions to any mass movie star are pretty dumb, like, Vijay neenga eppadi? Vijay neenga ippadi panna nalla irukkum…etc. Then why the fuck would you invite such a moody person? I don’t think this even deserves a paragraph of rant. Switching to the next one would be Trisha; invited again by yours Corporate sincerely Vijay TV. This bitch pretends as if she came from Planet Venus and doesn’t know a single fucking word of her mother tongue, i.e. Tamil. That’s right Trisha’s mom was lifted straight from a sink hole in Namibia.
They were then granted refugee status by the Socialist Indian Government and then they took to their Colonial language (read: English) as the Saviour. True! In Chennai, you will be looked down so bad by the *so called educated elite* - (if you ever conversed in the regional language, Tamil) that you felt it was better inside the Corporation sink-hole. Geez, what the fuck is the problem with these so-called Tamil Actresses?
Kushbu speaks (or tries to speak) in fairly clean Tamil. Nayantara speaks in better Tamil than Trisha (actually miles ahead) and even Divya Spandana speaks better Tamil (on screen) than this Palakkad born, Convent educated (??), “enkku konjam konjam Tamil pesa varum” Junoon type. I cannot believe how hypocritical these so-called educated bitches in Chennai behave. Come on, how can you be so condescending about your own mother tongue. Shit! Who literally gives a fuck about your multi-lingual ability when you don’t reserve a pride to your own mother tongue? Shame!
So, in all, if you ever thought this Pongal Programs would be any different from the previous, I’m sorry the channels did their best to not disappoint their viewers. Not a single one would have spent time with Villagers and their human-spirit behind bringing food to your table. That’s right. How would your Ford Ikon or Skoda driving executives know about what is happening after the 100 km radius of Chennai? All you see is just the fucking concrete buildings and real-estate leeches lurking around. To see life beyond that…one has to travel!
NOTE: After all this thrashing I would like to add that there is no sexist attack involved. Both the sexes carry the same piece of thrashing! So, I’m pretty democratic in that sense.

That speech of Sivakumar was a rehash of his book “idhu raajapaaTTai alla”. If you liked his speech, you will like the book even more - it is a collection of vignettes published in Junior Vikatan in the early 80s. Later he added more content and published a much expanded version. Its available in Sarvodaya near periyar busstand or in the new horizon book shop in mela maasi street
