Much to the dismay of Civil Liberty Activists, Google India, the “don’t be evil” Company has decided to put on auction the “search terms” used by Indian Celebrities on eBay. When asked about such a move, a spokesperson from Google India said that we have always stood by the principle “Don’t be Evil” and never by “Do only good”.
When quizzed about “why such a move?”…an anonymous source said that cash starved Celebrities have approached the top brass at Google and have requested their “search terms” to be put on auction. In an undisclosed deal between Google and those Celebrities, the “search terms” will be available for auction on eBay India with starting bid amount expected to match their popularity status.
We then heard from insiders (wishing to be anonymous) that a bunch of “insulting intelligence category” Directors and Actors are in the list. If rumour mill has to be believed, Directors Dharani, Perarasu, Actors Balakrishna, Ramarajan etc. are in the list of {ex} Celebrities.
We asked Dawidar, the Secretary for Information Technology, Government of Tamil Nadu, about his views. He candidly admitted that he wasn’t aware of the fact that Actor Ramarajan or Director Perarasu were avid Internet users. He was even surprised when we showed Actor Ramarajan’s and Director Perarasu’s Facebook Profile pages. He wondered what would have been their “search terms” (that has been archived by Google)?
Sources at eBay declined to comment on the topic.
NOTE: “Search results” refer to search words used by the Celebrities themselves.
