In a dramatic move, Madurai Corporation’s Mayor, Thenmozhi, handed over several hundreds of contraceptives to NGOs and emphasized the need for protected sex for Canines. Some of the AIADMK and DMDK councillors were puzzled by her move. Even the deputy Mayor, P. M. Mannan was confused of this uninformed move. The Mayor, Thenmozhi then clarified on the need for contraceptives for Canines. She said that it is the utmost priority on her list over the bad roads as well as poor drinking water facilities across the City.
She felt compelled by the need to protect the uncontrolled Canine growth in “the streets of The Temple City. The first condom was received by Zizu, a Dobermann belonging to a wealthy upper-class family in Madurai. The Mayor also instructed the NGOs on the need to educate the Canines on how to wear those contraceptions in order to have safe sex. She expressed confidence that this drive will eventually drive away the cruel practice of capturing and eradicating rabid street dogs.
On the Canine side, representative Thangavelu argued for the contraceptive program to be initiated for human beings. They felt that the humans needed the contraceptives more than the dogs. At the end of the event, all the Councillors and Canines posed together for a Press photograph.
