Recently, I collected some data from a popular online Matrimony site to better understand the demographics of participants.
NOTE: You can click on respective images for a larger view.
The following image provides you a pie-chart of Female in their twenties and the type of profession that they are involved in. The participants in this chart fall under a particular language.
The following image provides you a pie-chart of Male in their twenties and the type of profession that they are involved in. The participants in this chart fall under a particular language.
Female in their twenties. Participation on online matrimonial site based on their mother-tongue.
Male in their twenties. Participation on online matrimonial site based on their mother-tongue.
Though, I’m not sharing with you - the numbers (numbers per profession or language or religion) or percentages, I get the impression that the online matrimony model generates a large portion of its revenue based on the subscription rather than advertisements. In fact, I suspect a sharing of personal data (like interests, age, profession etc.) to larger Corporates or business partners that have strategic tie-ups/investments with these popular matrimonial sites.
So, here you go folks, you have some sort of idea on the participation of genders according to profession type as well as their first-language. There is a lot that can be done to the existing model. I suppose a mix of conservatism and watch-the-competitor-play is keeping this market away from fresh thoughts.
