On Saturday night, along with family friends, I watched the much hyped movie, “Billa” at a local Cinema Hall.
The ticket rates were rigged by the Administrators. INR 30 tickets were priced at INR 100, INR 25 at INR 75. So, they (as in Administrators) did their best to match the Metro Multiplex rates although they didn’t do much to match the Multiplex experience. Especially, in a city like Madurai, you cannot expect your reserved seat to remain vacant until you arrive. Chances are, it might be occupied by a middle-class family that wears a “totally clueless” look or by some College going Cohort. You really don’t want to enter in to an argument with the latter.
It should have served as a deterrent from watching the Movie. But my curiosity decided to override common-sense. I usually agree with Moviebuzz’s review (of Sify) - well at least 45 percent of the time. Certainly not this time! [Sify review]
In a nutshell, it reminds me of a dialog from the Eddie Murphy movie, “Beverly Hills Cop”. Eddie plays the role of Detroit based Detective (character name: Axel Foley), who is on a {investigative} vacation at Beverly Hills, California. Two Detectives (McCabe and Foster) are vested with the duty of tailing Axel Foley and in one situation:
Axel Foley: Hey, we are talking about a friend of mine here!
McCabe: We are the first team
Foster: Yeah, and we are not going to fall for a banana in the tail pipe.
Axel Foley: [mocking Foster] You are not going to fall for a banana in the tail pipe? It should be more natural, brother. It should flow out like this - “Look man, I ain’t fallin for no banana in my tail pipe!” (See that is more natural for us). You have been hanging out with this dude [referring to McCabe] for too long.
Now, did it ring something in your ears? Well, not intended to demoralize Vishnu Vardhan (Director of Billa - 2007) but it is certainly to let him know that Billa ain’t that good! It falls in the category of movies that have seen their production expenses met through much touted mainstream media reviews and related marketing gimmicks. Well, I fell prey for Moviebuzz terming the film “slick and stylish”. Hope not you
In fact, I am a fan of Vishnu Vardhan that made films like “Arinthum Ariyamalum” and “Pattiyal”.
Verdict: It is Urine served as Scotch Whisky. An expensive Urine indeed!
