Requirement: Convert ROTN# circle “Aircel Mobile” Postpaid connection to Prepaid.
Situation: A typical example of how the Carrier provider and the Carrier-provider approved franchise (Postpaid dealer) work hand-in-hand to mislead the customer and in turn discourage him from converting his postpaid connection to a prepaid one.
Walk in to your nearest Aircel dealer (ROTN# circle) and request a “postpaid to prepaid” conversion form. S/he will plainly refuse. There is no such thing as the option is not available. When they can convert prepaid to postpaid, i don’t think the reverse process is “impossible”. To add to abstraction, they will direct you to the nearest head office. They should technically call the head office and route the request. But it is not the case. After an explanation from your end on why you want to switch over to prepaid, the head office intimates the franchise (dealer) to hand over the conversion form. The dealer after much reluctance hands you over one.
You need to buy a starter pack (it costed INR 50 at the time of writing) and fill in the new prepaid subscription form along with photo ID and ID proof copies. I don’t know why you need another ID proof and photo ID when you are already their postpaid customer. In these days of information technology, you never know what kind of information these tech companies have about you. Technically they can fit RFID in your underwear and share that tracking info with their business associates. God save the democracy.
So, yes, coming back to the story, you need to submit the conversion form along with the newly taken prepaid connection form and ID proof. This document is then forwarded to the nearest Aircel head office and after their approval, they will map your existing postpaid number to the newly obtained prepaid SIM. So, your old postpaid SIM becomes useless! Can’t they program the existing postpaid SIM to prepaid and avoid the starter pack?
So, what are you waiting for? Walk to the store and demand a “postpaid to prepaid conversion form” if you belong to the RoTN circle. You have every right!
BTW, “postpaid to prepaid conversion” is a mere formality to Aircel customers in Chennai circle. That is ridiculous!! How biased a company can be? You should have every right to retain the same contact # that you have shared with your friends/family and colleagues.
