Arrested Development::The dust settles

“The things that you own end up owning you” - Character “Tyler Durden”, Fight Club

Why am I such a Nihilist? No! Not always. Says my other alter-ego. So, after working as a freelance developer from home (as in Parent’s home), I decided to move to Bangalore based on an opportunity to work for a Startup. I signed up as a “Consultant”. Is it a fancy word to use in my profession? I don’t know.

Luckily my younger cousin along with his roomies were warm enough in accommodating me for the initial few weeks. Now that I have found a place to live on my own, I will be moving-in, this week. I signed the “Lease Agreement” and paid the advance. It is a Studio Apartment sort of place that the owner terms as one bedroom house. Technically, it is a portion of his home. I get my own Kitchen and Restroom. I don’t intend to cook any sooner. May be in due course of time I will begin to do that. BTW, to my luck, looks like the Oil Companies in India have “unofficially” issued notices to their Cooking Gas Distributors on _not_ to entertain new Gas connections. Now, this is *wonderful* (sarcastic sense).

Meanwhile, I ended up purchasing items - bare essentials for maintaining a place. I applied for Broadband connection from BSNL. They told me it would take a week. BSNL has its own way of defining bureaucracy. They are actually feeling the heat with the deregulation of telecom industry. But still the ones that are inured to the earlier culture find it hard to let it go. I need to add some furniture. I have already furnished the place with a mattress and pillow. This is primarily intended for guests (if any) visiting me. I am the kind that feels comfortable inside a sleeping bag rolling in all directions (as limited by compass) on the floor.

Now that I think about purchasing a Refrigerator, I am hitting the above mentioned quote from “Fight Club”. Seriously, it kind of makes me more mortal when I start accumulating things at my place. Someday it would eventually turn out to be in such a way that one has to earn up to a certain degree in order to sustain his new found wealth. Now, if you call that the growth in status - then I would disagree! If you call that responsibility - again, i would disagree. In the mean time, my mother is slowly pushing in my matrimonial agenda. It will be interesting how this whole thing turns out to be.

Eventually, I am succumbing to the urban way of life and turning in to an “Urban Animal”. Something that I don’t really intend to from the bottom of my heart. I hope my Nihilistic alter-ego keeps my urban alter-ego under check!

“Hey, you created me. I didn’t create some loser alter-ego to make myself feel better. Take some responsibility!” - Character “Tyler Durden”, Fight Club
