Without doubt, I can assertively state that ஃ (Ayutha Ezhuthu - 2004) or its Hindi version (Yuva) is heavily inspired by Amores Perros (2000). The Director, Alejandro González Iñárritu, and Writer, Guillermo Arriaga deserve credit for their close-to-reality depiction of life in Mexico. The movie weaves the relationship between the main characters and their canine. All the three characters belong to different strata of the society.
BTW, this does not undermine the effort of Mani Ratnam. Mani Ratnam has drawn the crux (an incident connecting the lives of three different people) from Amores Perros and crafted it in such a way to suit the palate of Indian movie-goers. He has displaced the canine relationship with socio-political issue as the connecting topic. I sure can admit that Mani Ratnam is not a close-to-reality sort of Director but a fascinating story-teller.
I am wondering how Mysskin would have interpreted Amores Perros in his own style? Story telling can’t get any closer to reality.
Rock on guys!
