A national shame called “Ragging”

Looks like someone has taken courage to put his academic career in the line of fire and come up with the dirty truth about the world of ragging behind the hostel closed doors. The recent ragging incident in Coimbatore is just one among many that could have gone unreported but for the courage of the Student and Parents involved.

More worse is the way the institutions handle such situation. Rather than taking a stern view towards Ragging, Institutions decide to placate the victim’s family and discourage them from filing Criminal case. What for? Are these institutions so worried about their image that the reported incident can generate heat from the media coverage? Or are they trying to abet the criminals in the name of students who committed such a crime?

This only showcases how misguided today’s generation of Youth have become like many of their predecessors. There is definitely a degeneration in values right after independence. At least the graduated lot were lesser and there was a certain amount of decorum. To add fuel to fire, we still have a corrupted pack of Directors that still continue to produce crass movies or tele-serials with the only pretext of sensationalism in High school or College life.

A Country’s progress need not be determined by its Stock market…It can only be determined by the quality of its Youth

The media should take some responsibility in flashing any transgression of human rights in the main page which in turn keeps the law and order informed and in turn bring the accused to Justice. If we cannot stand up for ourselves then there is no point to expect someone to stand up for us!

What today’s Youth need is guidance and inculcation of Universal values (the ones that cut across nationalism and regionalism)!
