If the American Government extended an open invitation to external agencies to fix their financial woes, I suppose “Madurai Corporation” would just outbid any competing organization (in the sheer magnitude of stupidity). I will tell you why?
1. How to convert a 80 feet road to 70 feet road?
The usual 80 feet main road stretching from the K.K.Nagar Arch till Arvind Eye Hospital has been reduced to a farce by constructing a 4-feet high x 2-feet wide median. Can you believe this? Right in the fucking middle of the road. Construction of median is a very medieval thought and at a time when Madurai Corporation should be thinking about ways to de-congest the vehicular traffic growth, it is thinking in the reverse direction.
2. How to turn a reasonably well “Panagal Road” (the stretch between the current Government Hospital till the newly sanctioned Government Hospital site or formerly referred as Anna Bus Stand) in to a total mess?
Again, the unanimous choice would be “Madurai Corporation”. I suppose, this should be the messiest team of public officials ever to have held office at the Corporation. Completely ignorant on what can be done to the betterment of public while predisposed towards satisfying vested interest and breeding sycophancy. The deterioration of values is so much that it puts the Democratic fabric in Madurai to shame!
With Professionals migrating to Cities in view of better opportunity and the usual hierarchical tendency of the Caste Hindus to judge a person by his work (read: determining the dignity of an individual by labour), i suppose, the Tier-II cities are left with an ageing crowd and a dearth of fresh talent! (Looks like Public Administration is left for those that believe in satisfying the Politicians than the Public). With the State Government giving a rat’s ass on spreading the benefits of globalization across the State (it is farcical to note that Tamil Nadu is one of the most urbanized states in India), i think it is all too unhealthy to focus attention only in the parts in and around Chennai.
So, with sycophants, “Madurai Corporation” has a *bright* future ahead! With a 15 lakhs spent on subway path (in front of the Government Hospital) and “god knows what” lakhs on overhead walk way bridge (in front of Periyar Bus Stand), I think the Corporation is sending a message to the Qin, Han and Ming Dynasty folks in China that they (i.e. Corporation) will never cease until they have built a median dividing the whole city. BTW, both the subway and over head bridge remain unused.
A sheer waste of public money, i should say!
So, here is a list of suggestion for the Madurai Corporation on how they can waste more public money:
(1) Gold coated condoms can be distributed for free to the general public to create awareness on protective sex and prevent unplanned pregnancy.
(2) Splurge on 1st class air-tickets and star accommodation to the ex-Executives of troubled financial giants in the U.S. and U.K. by inviting them to a guest lecture and making them consultants to investment initiatives in Mad-fuckin-durai.
(3) Send the brains behind such a “median initiative” to an exotic island stay in the deep Pacific (BTW, make sure it is a one way ticket).
(4) Felicitate the Mayor and Deputy Mayor over a week long ceremony for heading such a brilliant team at Madurai Corporation. As usual, funding for the extravagant function will be from the taxes collected from yours sincerely ignorant Public.
God save Madurai!
